NBA champion Marco Belinelli officially retires from basketball

Marco Belinelli, one of the most decorated players in Italy and the NBA champion of the San Antonio Spurs, said it was a 39-year-old career.

Belinelli shared the news on Instagram, leaving a heartfelt message to fans and teammates nearly two decades later.

“I gave my heart. Every part of me,” Bellinley wrote. “Every day. Basketball gives me everything…I give me everything. Saying goodbye is not easy. But time. I carry every emotion, every sacrifice, every cheer. Thanks to those who have always believed in it. To the next generation – I leave my dreams.

Belinelli entered the league with the 18th draft pick at the Golden State Warriors' 2007 NBA Draft. Over the next 13 seasons, he played for Toronto, New Orleans, Chicago, Sacramento, Charlotte, Atlanta, Philadelphia and the most memorable San Antonio. His biggest moment was in the Spurs’ 2014 Championship Championship, where he played a crucial role in the No. 6 man, averaging 11.4 points per game this season.

During his NBA career, Belinelli averaged 9.7 points and shot 37.6% from three-pointers.

His ability to shoot long distances and inspire bench units makes him a trusted role for competing teams.

After leaving the league, Belinelli returned to the club where he started his career and played in Italy for five seasons. He was named LEGA BASTACK SERIE as MVP in 2024, winning the sixth man of the year in a back-to-back season and helping Bologna win two Serie A titles.
