LeBron James' future in Los Angeles is uncertain, Lakers prepare for withdrawal

The LeBron James era in Los Angeles may be coming to an end.

After picking up his $52.6 million player option to stay with the Lakers in the 2025-26 season, speculation is likely James' last year in purple and gold. Just two months away from the camp, the conversation was just getting bigger and bigger.

A source told NBA insider Marc Stein that he talked about James' future, more than this year.

While LeBron decided to lock in on him again in Los Angeles, “there is no deal for a team he wants to be in and the acquisition is extremely unlikely.”

“Of course, they seem to be approaching the 2025-26 season as LeBron's last season at Tinthaltown,” Hailin suggested that the Lakers have begun preparing for a life without him.

James is 41 years old and still playing at the elite level. He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game, while shooting 38% from the field last season. But serious questions about whether the roster can compete for the championship remain after the first round of playoff exits and the gap between top contenders such as the Lakers and Oklahoma City widened.
