Wayfarers Chapel may have a new website in Rancho Palos Verdes

Wayfarers Chapel, the historic Rancho Palos Verdes Sanctuary closed due to a landslide, may have found a more stable ground.
Church leaders said they found a location about a mile west of the old site, where rapid land movement threatened hundreds of homes. Leaders announced in May 2024 that they plan to demolish the church, a national historic landmark and popular wedding venue.
This week, the church announced website It found the “ideal new location” next to the Rancho Palos Verdes Town Hall on the old battery Barnes military grounds. The church said it still needs to “security” the site and raise funds for reconstruction.
The church’s executive director Dan Burchett had previously said he expected a full reconstruction to cost nearly $20 million.
If the leader gets the money, the site will be rebuilt with the visitor center, museum, cafe and garden and says guests will be appreciated with the same ocean views.
The historic church used to be Beat by the nearest landslide Breaking windows, twisted metal frames and fresh cracks in the parking lot. The church leaders initially considered trying to rebuild it at the same location, but the deterioration of the landslide made it impossible. Potential new locations are not part of the urban landslide area.
The 100-seat glass and wood church was built in 1951 and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright Jr., son of the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
