EA cancels Black Panther Games and closes studios to develop it
EA is canceling its Black Panther Games and closing studios to create it, Cliffhanger Games, which is part of a larger part of the company's layoffs in the company, IGN Report. The third-person action adventure game was originally announced in July 2023 and is one of several Marvel projects under development at EA Studios.
IGN wrote that a few people were fired compared to the previous round of cuts Titanfall The developer is reborn, but EA is still slapping out roles outside of Cliffhanger, including people in the publisher's “mobile and central team.” EA reportedly told employees that layoffs are a way to “boosting our attention and putting our creativity under the most important growth opportunities.”
As of now, these “opportunities” include Iron Man game developed by EA Motive, Respainn's next Star Wars Jedi game, and new works in some important franchises such as The Sims, Battlefield, Battlefield, Skating and Clipper Legends. Beyond that, the company has the EA Sports and the next Mass Effect game, although BioWare has experienced multiple rounds of layoffs since 2023, so there is uncertainty there too. Similar to BioWare's reorganization in a similar way, IGN The report said EA tried to find at least some of the characters of Cliffhanger gamers in other parts of the company.
Engadget has contacted EA for comment and will update this article if we hear back.
EA has been uninterested in licensed gaming since at least February 2024, when CEO Andrew Wilson announced that the company “has got rid of the development of future licensed IPs that we don’t think will succeed in our ever-changing industry.” The company recently announced a new strategy game using the Star Wars License – Star Wars Zero – But this seems to be more like an outlier than regular.
EA's Black Panther game isn't the only project with characters – Amy Hennig's Marvel 19943: The Rise of Hydra Not cancelled yet – but the company seems easy to give up, which does seem strange. Black Panther During the original operation of the theater, it made more than $1.3 billion. It seems that it seems entirely possible for viewers who like the movie to appear, a new game that includes their favorite Marvel characters.
