Former Lakers champion advises Luka Doncic, who leads Los Angeles

There are few franchises in sports, the level of expectations that the Los Angeles Lakers have every season.

Winning the championship is not Los Angeles’ goal, but the standard.

Now, 26-year-old Luka Doncic has entered the spotlight after arriving from Dallas, Lakers legend Derek Fisher has given some advice for the Slovenian superstar.

“The responsibility is hard to describe. My shoes were never the size of Luka because it really brought the franchise to the next iteration and generation,” Fisher told ESPN LA. “I think the biggest thing is to be a champion. While Lakers fans and organizations always work on it every season because Luka and people who look like they're going to be here for years, you still have to be willing to play long games. Right? You want to win now, but your habits have to last ten years.”

Fisher's words come from experience. He won five championships with the Lakers and knew not only the hardships to reach the top, but also the hardships to stay there.

Another former Lakers champion and Slovenian Sasha Vujacic echo Fisher's belief that Don Cic is suitable for Los Angeles

“I think it's 100%. I don't think Dallas – but I think Luca's light and ability are too big for the Dallas spotlight. I think Luca is the perfect person we need in Los Angeles to take us to the next championship,” Vujacic said. “And I said a long time ago when I watched him play – I saw a glimpse from Kobe, just like in his eyes. He smiled, he wanted to kill you. But he wanted to kill you. There was a saying in our locker room – you smelled blood, you smelled blood, you smelled them – I think Luca is the few in that league, and I'm already having fun. He's with us.”
