Tiktok now blocks search for dangerous Chromebook challenges

Tiktok is full of entertaining cat videos, humorous dances, and even challenges – the famous ice pack challenge has returned and is promoting support for mental health. But now, the dangerous Tiktok challenge is spreading through short video apps and schools across the United States.

Named after Google's laptop series, Chromebook Challenge encourages students to plug metal objects into USB ports on computers issued by their school to create sparks, smoke and possible fires.

A representative for Tiktok told NBC News that the challenge video also showed on other social media sites that Tiktok blocked search terms such as “Chromebook Challenge.”

When I tried searching for the phrase on May 9, no videos appeared, but a security warning appeared. “Some online challenges can be dangerous, disturbing and even fabricated,” it says. “Learn how to identify harmful challenges to protect your health and well-being.”

Search Tiktok will play videos showing kids trying dangerous and destructive challenges. What you might expect is that the school is not happy.

As Northjersey.com reports, David Winston, principal of Lincoln Park Middle School in Morris County, New Jersey, sent a letter to his parents.

“We want our students to make responsible choices and avoid any behavior that could cause harm, property damage, disciplinary action or loss of privilege,” Winston said in the letter. “This behavior is considered a destructive form and can be considered arson if it causes a fire.”

Children may not laugh when parents receive bills that damage or damage their laptops.

As FOX5 reports, a letter sent to parents of children in Prince George County Public Schools, Virginia, we ask you for help when we talk to our children about the importance of caring for their school equipment and thinking twice. “To remind people that families are responsible for the expense of any intentional damage caused to the school’s issued Chromebook.”
