JD Vance defends Trump's doll talk – and it's more ridiculous than you think
Vice President JD Vance defended President Donald Trump's statement Thursday that children will have to deal with fewer dolls by providing parents with a wild confrontation point: These kids can participate in the war.
“I asked if someone else was asking for two dolls, five dolls or 20 dolls,” Vance told Fox News' Martha MacCallum.
“I would ask the American mom and dad… do you want to – God forbid, if your country is in war and your son or daughter is sent to fight – you want to know that the weapons they have are good things made in the United States, not weapons made by foreign opponents.”
Vance also argues that children’s prescription drugs are increasingly out of doll conversations in U.S. pharmacies, noting that Trump’s point is about “recovering self-reliance” into the U.S. economy.
“It won't happen overnight, and Martha isn't always that easy,” he said earlier in the program.
Vance's comments came just one day later, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News' Laura Ingraham that he would assure a little girl that the little girl with fewer dolls has a “better life” than Trump and experiences “economic freedom” than her parents.
Earlier this week, Mattel, a maker of Barbie dolls and other popular toy series, announced that it would raise prices in some products in the U.S. due to the higher costs associated with Trump’s tariffs.
