Houston shooting at least one dead and multiple injured

Police said at least one person was killed after a barbecue broke out in a Houston family and the others were in critical condition.

Houston Police Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu said officials received a call from the shooting before 1 a.m. local time. Minutes later, officers arrived at the ongoing gunfire and multiple victims who were moved to Jack in a nearby box restaurant and evaluated and transported to a local hospital.

Chief Cantu said in a press conference early on Sunday morning that the incident began after midnight when “an uninvited guest” arrived at the family gathering. She said the uninvited man started shooting and residents returned fire after being asked to leave.

Chief Cantu said: “The person who did this came uninvited and was asked to leave and he started the gunfire incident.”

Police said at least 14 people were injured. Several of the injuries were in critical condition and under surgery.
Chief Cantu added.

Police have not arrested the suspect and refused to disclose one. Chief Cantu said several people were detained “to obtain information.”
