Four people died when a car crashed through an after-school center in Illinois

State police said four, all children or teenagers, were killed and several others were injured Monday when a car crashed through a school center in Chatham, Illinois, a village south of Springfield.
The Illinois State Police Department said in a press release that the victim is believed to be under 18 years of age.
Police said the car hit three victims outside the building. Several others were taken to hospitals and at least one person was airlifted.
Melaney Arnold, a spokeswoman for the Illinois State Police Department, said there was no additional information about the injuries that were injured Monday night.
State police said the driver, who has not been confirmed, was not injured and was evaluated at the hospital Monday night. Police said no one else was in the car.
State Police say
According to police, the driver drove into the east side of the building, hitting multiple people outside, and then continued through the building, hitting more people inside, and then through the building on the west side.
Illinois State Police and Chatham Police Department are investigating the crash. It is not known what caused the crash.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker expressed condolences to the victims and their families in a statement Monday night, saying his administration is monitoring the situation.
“Our community has lost a group of smart and innocent young people, who have been in front of them all their lives,” Pritzker said. “Parents said goodbye to their children this morning, not knowing it was the last time. My heart is heavy for these families and the unimaginable sadness they have experienced.”
This is a developing story.
