Massachusetts school district holds work fair

The annual North MA Central Educator Job Fair is bigger and better than ever.

Now in its third year, the multi-district event at Ashburnham Oakmont Area High School will see more than 20 district officials from educators across the state to connect, network and discuss career opportunities.

Stacey Christiano, director of human resources at Oakmont Regional High School, said she was delighted to see a job fair that started in six districts and expanded so rapidly in such a short period of time.

“We still call it 'North Central' because that was our initial goal, but now we're taking it to Boston and Burlington to participate in the area – I'm a little shocked by how many areas we have,” she said. “There are some really good areas here.”

Ralph C. Mahal District Human Resources Master Alyssa Magoffin will attend Thursday, May 8 at the third annual North Central Massachusetts Education Work Expo at Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham.

The event will be open on Thursday, May 8 at Oakmont Drive 9 pm until 7 pm.

According to Christiano, the event is described as a “one-stop shop” and will focus on career opportunities for teachers, associates, teaching assistants, trustees, food service, transportation staff and summer staff.

“I think it’s just a good opportunity for people to get together and see what areas need what jobs, so we kind of change people and put good people in our circle,” she said.

Christino said the event received overwhelmingly positive feedback from past attendees.

“I think what’s going on is that we have a great reputation and people are coming out to see what we mean – it’s influential,” she said.

More than 20 school districts participated in job fairs

Districts and schools scheduled to participate in this year's job fair include Ashburnham-Westminster Regional, Narragansett Regional, Fitchburg Public, Quabbin Regional, Hudson Public, Worcester Public, Marlborough Public, Nashoba Regional, Winchendon Public, Harvard Public, Athol-Royalston, Mahar Regional, Waltham Public, Leominster Public, Westford Public, Hopkinton Public, Wachusett Area, Nantucket Public, Milford Public, Greater Lowell Technical School, Burlington Public, Westwood Public, Minuteman High School and Dese Licensing Office.

Christian said the annual job fair could expand in the future.

“Twenty-three districts are a nice number – it makes people coming in with personal connections with the area employers behind the table, but it’s big enough to attract a large crowd. But I do see it growing in the future.”
