Penguins' Dunbar named AHL Player of the Week TheAHL.com

Springfield, Massachusetts … American Hockey League announced today Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defenseman Matt Dunbar has been selected as Howies Hockey Video/AHL Player of the Week For the period ending February 1, 2026.
Dunbar played two games for the Penguins last week, scoring one goal, five assists and a +4 rating.
On Saturday night, Dunbar scored a memorable goal — which he dedicated to a young cancer patient and his family after meeting with them on the bench before the game — and had an assist in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's 4-1 victory over Syracuse. Dunbar earned one-star honors for the second straight game on Sunday, dishing out four assists to help the Penguins beat Lehigh Valley 6-2.
Since joining Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on loan from Pittsburgh on December 13, Dunbar has contributed 11 points, 2 goals and 9 assists in 17 games; at the beginning of this season, he scored 1 goal and 2 assists in 11 NHL games. A 12-year pro who was drafted seventh overall in the 2012 NHL Draft, Dunbar played in 748 NHL games during his career with Pittsburgh, Dallas, Tampa Bay, Arizona and Minnesota, totaling 85 goals and 176 assists for 261 points. The Regina, Saskatchewan native made his professional debut with the Houston Eros in 2013 and has played in 40 games during his AHL career with Houston, Iowa State and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
