Mikie Sherrill wins New Jersey governor's Democratic primary election

The other three candidates reached the balance of the total vote: Josh Gottheimer, New Jersey's Fifth Congressional District representative; Stephen Sweeney, former state Senate president; Sean Spiller, president of the New Jersey Education Association.

Ms. Chariller said to supporters gathered in Morristown, New Jersey to celebrate her victory: “I will protect our rights, including the right to abortion.” As for Mr. Siatarelli, she said: “I am ready to shake the status quo, and Jack is the status quo.”

“He hasn't changed, he's a replay,” she added.

Ms. Sherrill, an attorney and graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey for about four years and was one of 101 new congressional immigrants, including 42 women – as president during Mr. Trump’s 2019 presidency, thus turning the house from red to blue. She won a Republican who did not run for reelection and won nearly a quarter of a century of seats.

This year, Ms. Sheriel, 53, is the only woman running for governor in either party primary, clings to a well-planned message that she “goes to fight” with her mother as her mother and a trained veteran. Two of her four children will be in the Naval Academy later this month, a detail she shared with voters.

Ms. Sharrier’s supporters gathered for the victory party on election night.

“We are ecstatic,” said Robert Rodríguez, a field organizer of the Eastern League of North America, who hit 19,000 doors on her behalf. “She's about working class, about job opportunities. She will make sure the contract is additionally determined.”
