Bomb explodes near the main office of the Greek Railway Company in Athens: Police – Country

Authorities said a bomb was planted near the Greek train offices of Greece's major railway company, which exploded Friday night in a busy area in central Athens. There were no reports of injuries immediately.

The explosion occurred amid widespread public anger over the railway disaster of 2023, Greece's worst disaster, in which 57 people were killed, as the damage caused by freight trains and a freight train in the opposite direction grew, on the same road.

Local media said a newspaper and news website received an anonymous call shortly before Friday's explosion, and callers warned that the bomb had been sown outside the railway company's office and would explode within 40 minutes.

Police blocked the site along a major avenue in the Greek capital, keeping residents and visitors away from buildings in areas with several bars and restaurants. Police officers at the scene said a bag with explosive devices had been placed near the Greek train building on Syngrou Avenue.
