Rain is expected Monday afternoon; cold weather is expected throughout the week

Precipitation in the Los Angeles area can be expected Monday morning, forecasters said. Rainwater is expected to start Sunday afternoon and disappear by Monday afternoon, but temperatures will be below average throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service.
A mostly cloudy Sunday will fall into “an overnight and tomorrow morning rain movement,” said Kristan Lund, a meteorologist at the office of the federal agency Oxnard.
“We can see inches from a quarter to a half inch,” Lund said Sunday.
She said the heaviest precipitation is expected to be at 10 or 11 p.m. Sunday. “Then it will taper in the morning, very, very light in Eastern counties, and be done later tomorrow afternoon.”
As there is little projection, rainfall is not expected to affect the debris flow area.
“Thankfully, there is no problem,” Lund said.
She said precipitation and below-average temperatures are caused by weather systems coming from the Pacific Northwest.
Although precipitation is expected to end on Monday, cold weather is expected to take several days. In Los Angeles and Ventura counties, temperatures are expected to be 5 to 12 degrees lower than normal counties, Lund said.
“It will last most of a week, if not the whole week,” she said. “By the weekend, it's close to normal.”
