Huawei's Pura X is an extensive flip phone with DeepSeek AI assistant

Huawei is starting its entirely Android-free era with Pura X, a new foldable phone running the company's Harmonyos 5 software and does not include the option for people to use Google's OS.

The Pura X is also unique in several other ways. Its wide 6.3-inch display has a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is unusual for foldable flip phones. The phone is also equipped with a new AI assistant Xiaoyi, which uses Huawei's artificial intelligence model and some assistants from China's DeepSeek. The phone starts at RMB 7,499, which is about US$1,037.

The company struggled in the U.S. market for several years as sanctions restricted the technology of U.S. companies. The device's last Google break may represent an important step Huawei has taken.
