Jalen Brunson's return could boost Knicks' playoff push

New York Knicks star guard Jalen Brunson was cleared after a sprained right ankle on March 6 and is expected to resume operations as he was cleared out after a sprained right ankle on March 6. The injury occurred in overtime when Brunson climbed onto Austin Reaves' foot. Brunson's recovery is initially expected to go well and he can come back this weekend.

Brunson has been a key player for the Knicks throughout the season, averaging 26.3 points, 7.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 61 games. His performance put him among the league's top scorers and organizers and earned considerations of all-NBA honors. Despite his absence, the Knicks remained on his side, achieving an 8-5 record without him and securing third in the Eastern Conference rankings.

Coach Tom Thibodeau expressed confidence in Brunson's return, noting that the Guards may resume practice on the Knicks' upcoming road trip, including Saturday's game against the Atlanta Hawks and Sunday's home game against the Phoenix Suns. Despite the team being in a comfortable season win, Brunson expressed his desire to get some games ahead of the playoffs.

During Brunson's absence, the Knicks' depth was tested, with other players stepping up their efforts to fill the gap. Thibodeau stressed that while Brunson is irreplaceable, the team remained competitive through collective efforts, especially in defense and rebounding. With the rise of the Knicks in the playoffs, Brunson's return will be a key addition to an already strong roster.

The Atlanta Hawks, currently playing for the playoff positioning, will host the Knicks on Saturday, hoping to steal two straight wins. Brunson's potential reward could be a game-changer in New York, who has been dominating his floors, especially in a game against the Hawks earlier this season.
