Trump says he is “a bit ironic” when he promises to end the Russian-Ukrainian war in 24 hours
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump said Friday that he would be “a bit ironic” when he repeatedly claimed that he would settle Russia in 24 hours – the Ukrainian war settlement – even before he took office.
Trump was asked in an interview with the “Full Measures” TV show about his repeated vows during the campaign as his administration is still trying to promote solutions 54 days after his second term.
“Well, I'm a little bit ironic when I say that,” Trump said in a clip released before Sunday's airing. “I mean I want to fix it, I think, I think, I think I'll make it.”
Few admits Trump has a long track record of making exaggerated claims.
“They are dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I hope they stop dying. I will do it – I will do it in 24 hours.”
“It’s a war that’s eager to resolve. “I’ve settled it even before I became president,” Trump said in a debate with then-Vice President Kamala Harris in September. “If I win, when I'm elected president, what I'd do is that I'd talk to one person, I'd talk to another. I'll put them together. ”
Republicans often repeat claims during campaigns.
His special envoy, Steve Witkoff, held talks in Moscow this week on a ceasefire that Ukraine has been publicized by the United States.
In the interview, if Putin disagrees with the war he started three years ago, Trump was also asked what the plan would be.
“The bad news in this world is because so many people are dying,” Trump said.
But I think, I think he will agree. I really think I know him very well and I think he will agree. ”
