Passengers offline on American Airlines plane wings after engine caught fire at Denver airport
Officials said an American Airlines plane engine caught fire at Denver International Airport after that plane was transferred Thursday night, forcing passengers to take passengers to the plane's wings as smoke scattered.
Passengers on American Airlines Flight 1006 were evacuated at the boarding gate, according to government sources familiar with the incident. According to Flightaware.com, the flight was on its way from Colorado Springs to Denver, around 5 p.m. local time.
Video inside the airport shows dozens of passengers leaving the plane and standing on the plane's wings when the smoke filled the air.
Six crew members and 172 passengers took the 737-800 aircraft off after the plane's engine caught fire at Denver Airport, a spokesman for the American Airlines told CNN in a statement.
The statement said the crew and passengers were moved to the airport's terminal. “We thank our crew, Den team and first responders for their quick and decisive actions to the safety of everyone on board and on the ground,” the airline said.

A Denver International Airport spokesman told CNN that the plane landed at C38 gate C38. The spokesman said the fire was put out and all passengers were evacuated without injuries.
A Montana woman captured video waiting for a connection within the airport flight to show a large cloud of smoke rising from the plane, seeing dozens of passengers leaving the plane and running away.
Leonard, who flew in from Helena, Montana, told CNN that she was waiting for a flight to Colorado Springs at Denver International Airport. That was when she looked outside and saw the flames and smoke engulfing the plane.
“I'm scared for those passengers,” Leonard said. “I can't even imagine how scared they must be.”
