Japan's ANA buys large orders for 77 new jets
Japan's largest airline, ANA Holdings, announced Tuesday that it will purchase 77 new aircraft from Boeing, Airbus and Western Union personnel to supplement its fleet in order to serve growing passenger demand both domestically and internationally.
The company said the order will total 2.1 trillion yen (about $14 billion) at the catalog price before the discount, adding in a separate statement that 68 orders have been confirmed, including nine small and medium aircraft choice.
The large order is “anticipated future growth in passenger demand, including strong inbound demand,” it said.
“This will be renewed by the Fleet 19 due to the 19th date and additional orders for new aircraft.”
From Boeing, the company will purchase 18 widebody 787-9 aircraft for “an international route for strong Asian and North American demand” and twelve 737-8 jets.
ANA or all Japanese airlines will also purchase a total of 27 Airbus aircraft – some of which will be used by Peach, a low-cost airline owned by ANA.
For domestic routes, ANA will order 20 100-seat Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, calling it “Japan's first” for the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer.
“The order will be a catalyst for improving domestic flight profitability and expansion of international flights, which is an area for the future growth of our airline business,” said Koji Shibata, president and CEO of ANA Holdings, in a statement.
“We will make the most of this opportunity to become an industry-leading airline with sustainable growth.”
With this massive purchase, the total number of aircraft in the group's fleet, including those ordered, will be approximately 320 in the fiscal year 2030.
More than half are Boeing 787 series aircraft, Anna said.
Boeing said it was “a privilege” that Anna chose the 787 Dreamliner and 737 Max to expand the fleet.
“The order proves Boeing's broad range of aircraft families' market leadership. We look forward to working closely with ANA to finalize the agreement,” the American Airlines giant said in a statement.
“We are delighted that Anna has decided to develop the fleet with new orders for 24 A321NEO and 3 A321XLR aircraft. We look forward to finalizing the details.”
