Moving companies are difficult to review. Since I personally cannot actually rate each porter’s drag skills, I rely on the experience of other clients. The most reliable source is the GSA3080 Form, which government employees fill out after relocation to evaluate movers. This data is compiled into the porter's all-in-one score. From my initial list of 50+ interstate porters, I cut down on anyone who scored below average.
From there, I looked at the records of each company in the Ministry of Transport. Does it hire enough drivers to handle timely off-road action? What is its security record? I've eliminated any company with below average vehicles or driver check scores.
Then I tested what I could: Quotation process. I filled out the online quotation form for 22 porters and waited for my phone to blow up. Getting a quote by phone only takes about 10 minutes. I've bothered all companies that sell on my questions or ask for a large amount of deposit immediately. The best moving companies will ask you to detail the project you want to move before providing a quote, and they will be able to explain their policies in clear, simple language.
Finally, I commented and complained about the Better Business Bureau. This doesn't quite understand the total – moving is an industry where people usually leave the comments only when they have questions, and it's more about finding a pattern of complaining. I also prioritize companies certified as Promover by the American Truck Transportation Association. This means they have conducted an annual review of their business practices, including complaint history.
