People in “serious situation” after the “major battle”

Two men were taken to the hospital, one of whom was in serious condition after “a major battle in the city center.”

Suffolk police were summoned to the High Street in Newmarket around 15:40 Saturday after reports of “disputes” involving “many people”. It added that two people need medical treatment.

“This is a major battle in the city center. Three ambulances were sent. A man, a man, was taken to Addenbrooke's hospital in serious condition,” the Ambulance Service in the East England told the BBC.

Police said two men, 26 and 23, from Newmarket, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious physical injury.

In social media posts, the unit had previously said the road had been closed in two directions but had since reopened.
