Timberwolves sign in, Heat lurk as option

Ja Morant trade rumors aren’t going away anytime soon. This is the latest:

The Minnesota Timberwolves have quietly inquired about a potential trade for the Memphis Grizzlies guard, testing the waters as the young star continues to express frustration in Memphis.

“There's no true point guard on the roster. They're asking Anthony Edwards to do that. They're asking Julius Randle to do a lot of point forward stuff. They've certainly checked in with Memphis about Ja,” Jon Klausinski revealed on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “They're testing the waters a little bit. I don't feel like it's anything really close. I do think if we get to late December and the Wolves are still treading water and the point guard position isn't solidified… I do think they can at least look harder for Ja Morant.”

Minnesota has interest as the team continues its search for a stable spot.

While the Timberwolves' offense ranks fourth in the league, the once top-10 Timberwolves defense has slipped to the middle of the pack. While Mike Conley's departure leaves a leadership void at point guard, Morant's ball-handling style has raised questions about his fit with Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns.

As for the Heat, they're still a plausible team for the down-and-out Jia.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, because that's who Pat Riley is,” Heat beat reporter Ira Windman said of Morant's fit with Miami on SiriusXM. “This was Pat Riley's home for struggling players. I'm going to date this to 1996. Tim Hardaway was removed from the starting lineup by Rick Adelman. Hurt his knee and his career was over; he was a shooting guy. Who was going to take a chance on him? Boom.”

Vindman noted that Jimmy Butler's move to Miami in 2021 followed a similar redemptive trajectory, ultimately leading the Heat to two NBA Finals appearances.
