The cause of death of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa has been revealed. Authorities in Santa Fe, New Mexico confirmed at a March 7 press conference that the Oscar winner was separated from a heart attack with Alzheimer's disease, a factor about a week after Betsy escaped from complications of Hanta virus. New Mexico's chief medical examiner Dr. Heather Jarrell explained that the drug previously found near Betsy's body was thyroid drug that did not cause her death. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said Betsy, 65, was alive on surveillance footage from a local pharmacy on February 11. On February 26, the couple was found along with one of three dogs on their Santa Fe property.
