Kathleen Kennedy sets the future of Star Wars directly, including her retirement

Kathleen Kennedy is not retired…from filmmaking. However, she is looking for a potential successor to take over her at Lucasfilm. This news, and more, just broke out in an exclusive interview with the president of Lucasfilm.

Earlier this week, news broke that Kennedy could retire from Lucasfilm by the end of 2025. Prolific producers won't put schedules on it until the deadline, but do confirm that they're looking at the next step. “I’m not retiring,” Kennedy said. “I will never retire from a movie. I will die from a movie. It's an important statement. I'm not retired. What happened to Lucasfilm, I've been talking about for a while [Disney’s] Bob [Iger] and Allen [Bergman] About what the final inheritance might look like. ”

“We’ve been talking about [succession]as I said, over the past few years, I won't be here for obvious reasons, for the past few years,” she continued. “George [Lucas] Asked me 13 years ago, now I am looking for who will replace me. As I said, we have a lot of people inside to handle the business, that is, the creative side. This work has also evolved since I stepped in. Without streaming, we don't have a lot of things yet. So it has grown. ”

Kennedy refuses to name the person she is looking at Star Wars.

Of course, we know Mandalorian and Grogu It is the next movie in 2026. Kennedy confirmed that Shawn Levy's film (probably starring Ryan Gosling. Although she didn't mention the star) will follow this. It's an independent film, filmed for about five to six years Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. She is producing both.

Kennedy also said that Simon Kinberg has just begun writing the film in his trilogy, which she described as “the next iteration, which is a new legend that takes us to the future.”

She didn't mention the return of Daisy Ridley of the film, but did say that James Mangold's film was still on the script stage, just like Taika Waititi. “I've been waiting for Taika, and he's working with another writer right now,” Kennedy said. “He's busy. I love him and I think it would be great if we do get the script from Taika. I've seen the first act I like, but it's tricky to tie him up.”

So you have. The report earlier this week was…not exactly 100% accurate but close. It sounds like we might be hearing more about Shawn Levy's movie Star Wars celebration.
