Equipment exploded in Russian consulate in Marseille, France

The Kremlin said on Monday that it urged France to impose a force on security measures after an explosion in a Russian consulate building in Marseille, which Moscow said appeared to be an act of terrorism.

The incident took place in the port city of southern France on the third anniversary of the Russian-Ukrainian War.

A French security source told Reuters that two projectiles were thrown on the outer wall of the Russian consulate, one of which exploded.

It is not clear whether the projectiles cleaned the wall. French broadcaster BFM TV said the projectiles were Molotov cocktails and they landed in the consulate’s garden.

“The explosion on the territory of the general in the Russian Consulate in Marseille is all signs of the terrorist attack,” international news agency Tass quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova.

“We require detailed measures to conduct an investigation and steps to strengthen the security of Russian foreign missions.”

Sources added that there were no casualties and all employees and Russian consuls were not injured.
