WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he had directed the Justice Department to terminate all remaining Biden-era U.S. lawyers and asserted that the department “has never been politicized as before” .

“We must 'clean the houses' immediately and restore confidence. The golden age of America must have a fair justice system – starting today,” Trump said in a post about the Truth Society.

The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Last week, the White House sent termination notices to several U.S. lawyers across the country, appointed by former Democratic President Joe Biden.

On Monday, several U.S. lawyers appointed by Biden announced they were resigning. Others left the government last week.

Current and former Justice Department lawyers say that while U.S. lawyers are to step down after changes in the presidential administration, the current administration usually asks them to resign and will not issue a brief termination letter.

Since Trump took office last month, U.S. lawyers have terminated the latest federal law enforcement officers for U.S. lawyers.

Professional Justice Department officials usually serve from one government to the next. However, dozens of cities, including Washington and New York, have been fired or resigned since Trump took office.

Trump is vowing to end the Justice Department's “weaponization” and he said he was used against him during his time in power.
