Authorities said strong winds from the west were about 29 miles per hour, and gusts were up to 38 miles per hour, about 2:15 pm, which is the time of the crash. There was also snowfall in Toronto, which was hit by two snowstorms in the past few days.
According to the aviation tracking website Flightradar24, weather consultation at Toronto Pearson International Airport at the time of the crash “represents gusts and snow blowing.”
The cause of the crash will be investigated by the Transportation Safety Commission of Canada, which will be assisted by a team of U.S. investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration.
There were 76 passengers on board.
According to Delta, the flight had four crew members and the rest were passengers. 22 of them are Canadians.
Some of these were taken to the hospital after injuries, but most passengers were taken to a Sheraton Portal hotel near the airport terminal.
A hotel staff member said he left at around 7 p.m. local time and was picked up by a taxi and his family, and refused to provide more details.
Although two of the five runways remained closed, operations at the airport resumed local time.
The plane is a bomber jet.
The model CRJ900 aircraft is operated by Delta Air, which typically operates smaller aircraft for airlines.
According to FAA Records, about 16 years old. With regular maintenance, such passenger aircraft are usually operated for two to three decades or more.
Airline data company Cirius said airlines around the world use more than 380 CRJ900s. According to Cirium Data, the aircraft has been in operation for more than two decades and has a reliable safety record.
