Missing boater was rescued from the coast of Catalina Island; dogs remain missing

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a man floating on the thong on the Southern California coast on Saturday night but could not find a dog with him.

According to a Coast Guard press release, the couple apparently had disappeared from a 34-foot sailboat in the strait between Catalina Island and the mainland.

Someone on the sailing boat warns the Coast Guard to disappear around 8 p.m.

A Coast Guard was launched from Los Angeles, and the second ship, apparently already in the area's knives, was transferred to the search side. Air support was summoned from the Coast Guard in San Diego, according to the press release.

A helicopter discovered a dinghy about 1,400 yards from the sailing boat, about 18 miles east of Catalina. Coast Guard officials said the person suffered from “mild hypothermia but no major medical problems.”

However, according to Coast Guard public affairs expert Richard Uranga, the dog cannot be found and remains missing.
